Wright State University’s student accountancy chapter of Beta Alpha Psi has been awarded Superior status from the international honor society for the 16th consecutive year, the highest level of achievement.
Chapter members and pledges must take part in at least 12 hours of professional activities and 12 hours of service activities per year, and a total of 32 hours per person. Even in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Wright State chapter exceeded the requirements, averaging 37 hours per student with 674 hours of service work.
“The time commitment these students commit to is what makes our Beta Alpha Psi students stand out from other students,” said Jim Greenspan, chair of the Department of Accountancy in the Raj Soin College of Business. “Their commitment to both their craft and the community they are in helps to simulate what will be expected of them as business professionals.”
The students’ service work included tutoring students in accounting principles, promoting careers in accounting to students, preparing note cards for children of families receiving food bank donations, participating in the Dayton Heart Association walk and assisting in the Color the Woods activity on campus.
In addition to taking part in service and professional activities, Beta Alpha Psi members and pledges network with business professionals throughout the year. This year, the chapter had activities with professionals from RSM, Brady Ware, Brixey and Meyer, Clark Schaefer Hackett, Flagel Huber Flagel, Deloitte, Reynolds & Reynolds and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
